Found an interesting article on Forbes.com about the rising value of photography today. The highest amount ever paid for a photograph up until last October had been $822,400.00. Then in November, it went up to 1.2 million, and 3 months later, an Edward Steichen photograph, “The Pond-Moonlight”, sold for 2.9 million at a Sotheby’s auction.
Up until very recently, photography had been considered subordinate to the fine arts like painting, sculpture, etc. The great master Ansel Adams, who struggled his entire career to have his work accepted by the art community, never really enjoyed commercial success until late in life. A mural of his famous print “Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico” sold for $71,500, the highest ever paid for one of his photohraphs. Seems like a paltry sum by today’s standards. Hopefully, the value of fine art photography will continue to rise and become appreciated by viewers and collectors worldwide.

All spring and summer long I had scouted and photographed many local photogenic areas, and had made plans to return to these very same places in the fall and winter. Many times I like to photograph areas in all seasons to gain a perspective of how nature affects a landscape. Plus the colors of fall, and the winter snow always make for great images. Unfortunately, plans get changed, sometimes without any warning. [click to continue…]

I’ve made a few improvements to the site including a new and improved navigation system more compatible with all of the different browsers. Also added a Store page that will feature our normal prints, plus our new greeting cards, and 2008 calendars still in development. There is now a Testimonials page which will be updated regularly with all of the wonderful comments I receive regularly. If anyone sends me a picture of our prints hanging in their homes, I will add it to the site. A new newsletter Archive is also available for those wishing to read our past newsletters. Subscribe now, and you will receive the latest newsletter as soon as it is released and you’ll be able to take advantage of any promotions or special offers before they expire.
Finally, I’m working on an article describing my current equipment choices and basic workflow for those who are interested in how I process and prepare my images for final printing. I often get many questions about the whole process, either from other photographers or print purchasers, so this may help to clarify my approach. Thanks for reading!
