Hudson River Moments, Beacon

I have a habit of looking out the window as soon as I wake up, and this morning, I knew something special was going to happen. With barely enough time to get dressed and not even close for a cup of java, I headed out the door to search for a location I thought would give me the best potential for a worthwhile image. A quick check on my iPhone told me low tide would occur during sunrise, so for me that means I can get right on the shore of the Hudson, and right in the water – literally.

I’ve often spoken of the role music plays for me in visual composition, and this is another image that seems so orchestrated, like a beautiful symphony with its melody, harmony, and counterpoint. From the relative lack of color, to the crescendo that happens in the sky, I really just tried to make sense of it all through the camera, and allow the scene to dictate what needed to be captured, and excluded. Most important is that my descriptions of the moment relate not to the image, but to the vista and the feelings I felt, lucky yet again to enjoy a good start to my day.
